The side effects of Aldara Cream are reportedly mild and commonly include:- reddening, or flaking of the skin; crusting; swelling; itching; burning sensation; or, change in the skin color which may not go away.
Uncommon side effects may include:- headaches, myalgia [muscular pain], backache, swollen lymph nodes, flu-like symptoms, diarrhea, or tinea cruris [fungal infection]. In some individuals, the area under treatment may get worse before showing signs of improvement; in others, it can become permanently dark or light.
In AK, the usual side effects include erythema [abnormal reddening of the skin], scabbing, or scaling not only in the area where Aldara cream is applied, but also outside that area. In addition, small open sores, or inflammation, may also occur, along with drainage, burning and itching.
In sBCC, the patient may experience erythema [abnormal redness of skin], burning, itching, sores, inflammation, crusting, flaking, or edema. sBCC can recur, so even if your physician has checked to see that the infection has gone, you will need to regularly meet your doctor to ascertain that the infection has not come back.
When patients use Imiquimod for treating GW or PW, they may see a reddening of the skin or inflammation on or around the area where the cream was applied. Aldara is not a curative treatment, it can only be used to control this infection, and as a result of this, even while patients use this cream, new warts may develop.
Sometimes, because of local skin reactions in the skin area being treated, a break may have to be taken from using this cream.
A severe skin reaction will show up in the form of:- rash, sores, ulcers, burning, itching, pain, or bleeding. In such a case, you must inform your doctor at once, for the treatment may have to be temporarily halted.
Should you have any unlikely, rare, or serious side effects, including:- dyspnea [labored breathing], irregular or rapid heartbeat, chest pain, cardiomyopathy [which can lead to congestive heart failure], angioedema, unusual perspiration, dizziness leading to fainting, depression, insomnia, thyroiditis, abnormal liver function, nausea, or fever, seek emergency medical aid immediately.
Do not begin, increase, decrease, or stop the medicine on your own. Do not share your medicine with others, even if they have similar symptoms, for it may harm them.
